The Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar-Bali (ISI Denpasar) remains steadfast in expanding its international network of academic, artistic, and cultural cooperation. Most recently, the Rector of ISI Denpasar-Bali, Prof. Dr. Wayan ‘Kun’ Adnyana, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Vice President of Brigham Young University, Utah, USA, Renata Forste, at the local campus on February 7, 2024. The agreed collaboration encompasses joint research in the field of arts, organization of seminars, exchange of faculty and students, as well as other relevant collaborative activities for both parties.

In addition to signing the MoU with Brigham Young University, the Rector of ISI Denpasar also discussed potential collaboration with the President of Utah Valley University, United States, Astrid S. Tumines.

The meeting between the Rector of ISI Denpasar and the leadership of these two prominent higher education institutions in Utah, United States, was made possible through the facilitation of renowned Balinese composer Nyoman Windha, Ibu Agung Warsiki, and Professor Jeremy Grimshaw.

The Rector of ISI Denpasar, Prof. Dr. Wayan ‘Kun’ Adnyana, stated that this international cooperation aims to further promote Balinese-Indonesian arts and culture. The collaboration is becoming more intensive and extensive with global universities that have a profound appreciation for Indonesian arts and culture. With the same spirit, this collaboration is undertaken by ISI Denpasar (Bali) with the hope of establishing ISI Denpasar (Bali) as the Global-Bali Arts and Creativity Centre Hub (@proG-BACCHISIBali).

Prof. Kun Adnyana added that collaboration with world universities that have a strong interest and commitment to Indonesian arts and culture is a strategic step in expanding the influence and presence of Balinese art on the international stage. Through this collaboration, it is hoped that a strong synergy will be formed between educational institutions and art practitioners, thus further enhancing the prominence of Balinese arts and culture on the world stage. Faculty of Fine Arts and Design ISI Denpasar Holds Odd Semester Graduation Ceremony for the Academic Year 2023/2024

The Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar (ISI Denpasar) organized the Odd Semester Graduation Ceremony for the Academic Year 2023/2024 at the Natya Mandala Building on Wednesday, February 8, 2024. A total of 201 undergraduate and applied undergraduate students completed their studies through the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum.

Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of FSRD, Dr. I Made Pande Artadi, S.Sn., M.Sn, reported that the 201 graduating students came from 7 study programs within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design. These include 27 students from the Fine Arts program, 12 from the Crafts program, 23 from the Interior Design program, 57 from the Visual Communication Design program, 35 from the Fashion Design program, 21 from the Photography program, and 14 from the Film and Television Production program.

All students completed their studies by following the MBKM curriculum. MBKM is independently implemented by ISI Denpasar in accordance with the programs offered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. Eight flagship programs are offered in MBKM, including Student Exchange, Internships/Work Placements, Teaching Assistantships in Educational Institutions, Research Projects, Humanitarian Projects, Entrepreneurship Activities, Independent Study/Projects, and Community Development/Thematic Work Lecture. Students can choose their desired program and undergo learning processes outside the campus. MBKM concludes with the dissemination of students’ final projects. “At the end of this program, we held an exhibition featuring the Final Projects of the Fine Arts and Design Faculty under the MBKM at the Nata-Citta Art Space for three days, from January 15th to 17th, 2024, extended until January 31st, 2024. The event was accompanied by an Art Talk featuring MBKM Partners as speakers,” explained this Interior Design lecturer.

Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at ISI Denpasar, Dr. A.A. Gde Bagus Udayana, S.Sn., M.Si, congratulated the students who successfully completed their studies. Dr. Agung Udayana also expressed pride in the achievements of students who obtained the highest GPA at the program and faculty levels, as well as the best works at the faculty level. Their achievements not only bring pride to the institution but also demonstrate extraordinary dedication and creativity in pursuing education in the field of art and design.

Dr. Agung Udayana hoped that the prospective graduates could dedicate the knowledge they gained to society. This Visual Communication Design lecturer emphasized the different challenges that students will face after graduating from university. “Strive to achieve your dreams as soon as possible, no matter how difficult the obstacles and challenges that may lie ahead. Believe in ourselves that we can overcome all of it,” he said.

The graduation ceremony was attended by officials from within the ISI Denpasar community, including Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Alumni, Dr. Drs. Faculty of Performing Arts at ISI Denpasar Confers Degrees upon 166 Students

The Faculty of Performing Arts (Fakultas Seni Pertunjukan or FSP) at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar (ISI Denpasar) held the Odd Semester Graduation for the Academic Year 2023/2024. The graduation ceremony took place at the Natya Mandala Building, ISI Denpasar, on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of FSP, Dr. I Gede Yudarta, S.Skar., M.Si, reported that a total of 166 students from five study programs were conferred degrees that afternoon. They comprised 35 students from the Dance Arts program, 51 from the Karawitan Arts program, 9 from the Puppetry Arts program, 48 from the Performing Arts Education program, and 23 from the Music Arts program. Overall, the graduating students are the result of the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum, which has been fully implemented at ISI Denpasar since 2021.

Dr. Yudarta explained that in the final phase of the MBKM curriculum, each student is given the freedom to choose an MBKM program and is required to complete all sub-components of the chosen program. During the Odd Semester of 2023-2024, several MBKM programs were selected by students, including independent study/projects, internships, teaching assistantships, and research. In the implementation of these programs, students from all study programs within the Faculty of Performing Arts collaborated with 102 partners from the Business and Industrial sectors.

“This activity is very sacred and signifies the graduation of students after successfully completing the education process and being declared graduates in the evaluation of the Final Project of the MBKM at the Faculty of Performing Arts, Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar,” said Dr. Yudarta.

Dean of the Faculty of Performing Arts at ISI Denpasar, Dr. I Ketut Garwa, S.Sn., M.Sn, in his address, stated that the graduation ceremony is the most important agenda for students as it marks the announcement of student grades, serving as the final assessment process for all courses taken. This ceremony also marks the graduation of students after completing their studies for a certain period.

“Today’s graduation ceremony is a very important moment to be observed, remembered, and respected because ISI Denpasar graduates, in their Final Projects, have fully implemented the Independent Learning-Campus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum,” said this karawitan art lecturer.

Dr. Ketut Garwa added that the implementation of this program has enabled students from the Faculty of Performing Arts at ISI Denpasar to complete their studies 98% within seven semesters (3.5 years). In this regard, the role of ISI Denpasar’s MBKM partners from the Business and Industrial sectors is crucial and strategic.

“On behalf of the leadership of the Faculty of Performing Arts at ISI Denpasar, I express heartfelt gratitude to the MBKM partners at ISI Denpasar who have provided guidance, assistance, direction, theoretical and practical knowledge so that our students can complete the intended program according to the applicable planning, mechanisms, and regulations,” said this karawitan lecturer at ISI Denpasar.

In response to the challenge of enhancing Gross Enrollment Ratio in Higher Education Institutions across Bali Province, while also disseminating information regarding the college admission selection system, the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar (ISI Denpasar) organized a Meet-and-Greet session with High School Principals from across Bali Province. This friendly gathering took place at the Cianjur Grilled Fish Restaurant, located on Jl. Cok Agung Tresna, Sumerta Kelod, East Denpasar District, Denpasar City, on Friday, February 2nd, 2024.

Attended by principals from eleven high schools in Bali, including the principals of SMKN 3 Sukawati, SMKN 5 Denpasar, SMKN 1 Denpasar, SMKN TI Bali Global Badung, and SMK TI Bali Global Denpasar, this congenial meeting also welcomed the heads of SMA Negeri 1 Ubud, SMKN 1 Sukawati, SMAN 7 Denpasar, SMAN 3 Denpasar, SMKN 4 Denpasar, SMAN 1 Kuta, SMAN 2 Denpasar, and SMKN 2 Sukawati.

The principals and administrative figures from the attending high schools exhibited great enthusiasm in receiving information concerning the National Selection for New Student Admissions (SNPMB) for the 2024 Bachelor’s and Applied Bachelor’s Programs. Two selection pathways are available to students, namely the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP) and the National Selection Based on Tests (SNBT). This information was disseminated by the Rector of ISI Denpasar, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Adnyana, alongside the Vice Rectors for Academic Affairs, Dr. Anak Agung Gde Rai Remawa, and for Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Komang Sudirga.

Prof. Dr. I Wayan ‘Kun’ Adnyana, the Rector of ISI Denpasar, emphasized the importance of effective synergy between high schools and higher education institutions in spreading awareness regarding the college admission selection system. “A strong collaboration between secondary schools and higher education institutions is crucial in disseminating information about the college admission selection system. This synergy will provide students with a better understanding of the selection pathways that align with their potentials and interests,” stated the distinguished Professor of Art History.

The Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar (ISI Denpasar) is currently preparing for International Accreditation for four (4) study programs. In efforts to refine these preparations, ISI Denpasar conducted a Workshop Simulation for International Accreditation Visitation at the Nata Widya Sabha Building, 2nd floor of the ISI Denpasar Rectorate, from January 28 to 31, 2024.

The workshop themed “Bali Tantu Bhuwana” (Achieving Outstanding Accreditation) featured two academics from Yogyakarta State University as speakers. They are Dyah Setyowati Ciptaningrum, S.Pd., M.Ed., Ed.D., and Dr. Phil. Nurhening Yunarti, S.Pd., M.T. UNY was chosen as the contributor because it already has internationally accredited programs. AQAS is one of the accreditation agencies selected by UNY to assess several study programs, including English Language Bachelor’s, English Language Education Master’s, and Applied Linguistics Master’s.

The workshop was opened by the Vice Rector for Planning and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. I Komang Sudirga. Prof. Sudirga stated that the workshop was held in preparation for the International Accreditation field visits to four (4) Study Programs (Prodi) within the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar. The concerned programs are the Karawitan Bachelor’s Program, Fine Arts Bachelor’s Program, Applied Fashion Design Bachelor’s Program, and Arts Doctoral Program. The International Accreditation Visitation will be conducted in March 2024 by AQAS (Agency for Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Study Programs), a higher education quality assurance agency in Germany.

“Through this workshop, we hope that the speakers can provide guidance and insights into the accreditation process conducted by AQAS. So, when the assessors come to our campus, our preparations will be thorough,” hoped Prof. Komang Sudirga.

Workshop speakers conducted simulations of International Accreditation visitations, including examinations of classrooms, learning support buildings, and faculty rooms. Additionally, they simulated interview sessions with faculty members, students, and partners from each assessed study program.

The Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar (ISI Denpasar) hosted an International Workshop titled Matra-Manu-Citra. The workshop, held collaboratively between ISI Denpasar and the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (Akademi Seni Budaya dan Wawasan Kebangsaan or ASWARA) Malaysia, took place at Wantilan Loka Widya Sabha, ISI Denpasar, on Thursday, January 25, 2024. The “Matra-Manu-Citra” workshop is a realization of the Bali-Bhuwana-Kanti (Global-Bali Arts Network Project) under the Bali Padma Bhuwana IV scheme. ISI Denpasar featured two speakers, namely the Rector of ASWARA, Prof. Ts. Dr. Ruslan Abdul Rahim, and the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Madya Ts. Dr. Khairul Azril Ismail. The workshop was attended by dozens of students from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at ISI Denpasar.

Rector of ISI Denpasar Prof. Dr. I Wayan ‘Kun’ Adnyana explained that the workshop focused on the topic of “New Painting on Drawing” or the technique of painting using colored pencils that can be easily mixed and blended. Students had the opportunity to learn new painting techniques guided directly by the two competent speakers in the field of fine arts. “This workshop provides a rare opportunity for students to explore new techniques in painting and enrich their understanding of creativity in the visual arts,” said the Professor of Art History.
